The Cardea Quintet
DATE            Sunday 13th September 2015
TIME             15H00
VENUE         De Oude Kerk, Church Street
TICKETS       R120,00

The Cardea Quintet consists of some of Cape Town's most vibrant young wind players (Louisa Theart - Flute, Daniel Prozesky - Clarinet, Simon Ball - Bassoon, Caroline Prozesky - Horn and Hilary Mohr - Oboe). Members of the quintet have studied in Cape Town, London, Geneva and Lausanne and all regularly play with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra either in full time or freelance capacities. The Quintet was formed out of a love for chamber music and a need for the advancement of South African Wind Quintet music.
The Cardea Quintet presents a programme of famous orchestral works beautifully arranged for Wind Quintet. This affords the musicians the opportunity to play some of the most exquisite music ever written in an intimate setting. Conveying the true spirit of the music with only five voices poses interesting challenges for the chamber musicians, but also allows the listener to connect with the composition in "Overture to 'La Forza del Destino" (G. Verdi) Peer Gynt Suite nr 1 (E. Grieg) and "Pictures at an Exhibition (Modest Mussorgsky).

The Cardea Quintet will be performing in the beautiful De Oude Kerk in Tulbagh, on Sunday 13 September

To complement the singing, the varied programme will include piano duets played by Hilary du Toit and Louise van Zyl, both accomplished pianists.  “Country Gardens” is a favourite and popular with audiences.  Fellow musician, Sylvia Humphreys who plays the clarinet, will perform beautiful tunes from classical (such as extracts from “La Traviata”), to the jazz/blues genres.
